Former TUI Director Jeremy Ellis to speak at Tuning In Travel

Tickets are available here.

Jeremy Ellis, the former top marketer at TUI UK & Ireland, will present at Radiocentre’s Tuning In Travel. The free-to-attend livestreamed conference is designed to inspire and give travel brands the confidence to speak directly to radio’s 36m weekly listeners. It coincides with the reintroduction of more flights and holidays as the UK’s travel restrictions begin to be lifted to some destinations.

Leading a team of over 200 marketers, Jeremy was the architect of several of TUI’s successful initiatives, including the design and launch of TUI’s most successful hotel concept, TUI Sensatori, the transformation of the First Choice brand to a pure All-Inclusive proposition, as well as leading the Thomson to TUI brand migration. Jeremy now works as an independent marketing consultant working with a range of clients across various sectors. Jeremy will give an overview of the industry and how he believes the industry should be approaching marketing during the Covid-19 pandemic. He will look at the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and take a look at potential future trends.

Hosted by Radiocentre, the industry body for commercial radio, Tuning In Travel is on Tuesday 21 July at 9.30am.

Hits Radio presenter and music artist Fleur East will also be discussing the role of on-air partnerships with brands and how it fits with radio programming, while Global’s Creative Director, Jo McCrostie, will be on hand to deliver a session on creative tone and the speed with which a radio ad can go from brief to broadcast.

Radiocentre CEO Siobhan Kenny will share the findings from a recent report, Commercial Radio: A force for good, which explores how the sector has responded to the coronavirus pandemic by not only continuing to provide vital public value output to its 36 million listeners, but also increasing the provision of essential news and information, broadcasting on average 25% more news bulletins that last 28% longer. Other sessions will focus on category specific research from Radiocentre and the benefits of audio branding.

The travel sector has historically been one of the top advertisers on radio, spending more than £61m in 2019. Radio performs best of all media in terms of ROI for travel brands, returning £5.70 on average for every advertising pound spent according to previous Radiocentre research. This is because of radio’s ability to stimulate an emotional response coupled with its strength at driving business online, where consumers access travel brands directly.

Further previous research found that listeners who had been exposed to radio campaigns were 59% more likely to browse the advertised travel brands, with the best performer in the study, which saw a 163% uplift in brand browsing, also a travel brand.

Siobhan Kenny, Radiocentre CEO, said: “We know that the travel sector has been hit hard by the coronavirus crisis. But as consumer confidence begins to show small shoots of recovery, we want to help the industry get back in business by reminding them of the effectiveness and the speed to market of radio advertising, and how much listeners trust the medium.”

Tuning In Travel is the last in a series of one hour conferences from Radiocentre aimed at different industry sectors. You can find out more here.
