Commercial radio scoops top Station of the Year Awards at the ARIAS

Commercial radio had a great evening at the Audio and Radio Industry Awards last night, picking up both of the coveted station of year awards.

Hits Radio triumphed over BBC Radio 2, 4, 5 Live, Fun Kids and the KISS Network to take home Gold for National Station or Network of the Year Award while Clyde 1 beat BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Ulster to The John Myers Award for Best Local Station of the Year.

Meanwhile, Absolute Radio also celebrated Gold for The Dave Berry Breakfast Show in the Best Music Breakfast Show category and News UK’s talkSPORT picked up a Gold for Best Marketing Campaign.

The event took place last night (3 May) at The Adelphi Theatre in London and was hosted by Rylan with live voiceover from Fleur East.  It was also a special evening for Young Audio Awards winner Jack Andrews who took to the stage with KISS Breakfast presenter Harriet Rose to present the trophy for Best Sports Show. Jack said he “loved every minute” of handing out the award in front of a busy room of radio professionals.
