30th March 2012
The nominations for the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2012, were announced earlier today via a live webcast hosted by 95.8 Capital FM’s breakfast show duo Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon. The results were fantastic for commercial radio, and extra special specifically for RadioCentre’s Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB).
The RAB’s "Britain Loves Radio" campaign by the marketing body for radio, which is funded entirely by the UK Commercial Radio industry, is shortlisted for best promotional/advertising campaign up against “In Mind of a Car Thief” by Eagle FM; “Red Nose Day” and “Wimbledon” promotions from BBCXTrails as well as talkSPORT’s “Rugby World Cup” jingles.
Station of the Year (for under 300,000 TSA) is an all-commercial tussle between Garrison FM, KL.FM and Moray Firth Radio; with the probability of Station of the Year (300,000 – 1 million) also seeing a commercial winner, thanks to nominations for 107.6 Juice FM and Mercia. Station of the Year (1 million plus) sees Liverpool’s award-winning Radio City 96.7 nominated, whilst Bauer’s Kerrang! Radio is up for the prestigious UK Station of the Year award.
The Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show for Absolute Radio, Heart Breakfast (London), and KISS Breakfast with Rickie, Melvin and Charlie are all rightfully nominated for breakfast show of the year. Clive Dickens at Absolute Radio and Andy Roberts from KISS will also be celebrating nomination for Station Programmer of the year in another all commercial contest, also featuring talkSport’s Moz Dee.
The shortlist for the Sony DAB Rising Star Award, the only people’s choice award which celebrates new radio talent, was also announced today and features four commercial shows. From Jazz FM, the Broken Hearts DJs; from KISS, Claro Amfo; from Fun Kids, Luke Franks; and from French Radio London, Frank McWeeny. You can vote for you favourite show here.
The Awards will be presented on 14th May at London’s Grosvenor House hotel, hosted by BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans. This year’s event will be an extra special celebration as it is the 30th Anniversary of these Awards. Last year, the commercial radio sector scooped its best ever haul of 12 Golds at the Sony Radio Awards.
