Interview with Phebe Edwards, singer on our latest See Radio Differently ad

North London born Phebe Edwards has been singing for as long as she can remember. Phebe is gospel trained and is known to impress fans with her versatile soprano vocals, although her talents do not end there.

Alongside singing, Phebe has been writing songs from an early age and is also a classically trained pianist. In 2002 Phebe’s list of accomplishments grew as she became the winner of the youth competition for the borough of Haringey’s Peace Alliance.

Most recently, Phebe has been singing backing vocals and doing television and studio work for an impressive selection of artists including the likes of Adele, James Brown, Jessie J and Rita Ora.

Phebe’s latest project is singing our most recent radio ad, a dance house anthem aimed at Airbnb’s Marketing Chief Jonathan Mildenhall, urging him to See Radio Differently. We caught up with Phebe at the recording studio to ask a few questions.

Where are you from?
North London, proudly born and raised.

When did you start singing?
I’ve been singing all my life really, but I started pursuing my singing full time in 2008. 

What was it like to sing with Rita Ora?
An amazing experience, she is a lovely person.

Tell us about singing with James Brown at the Roundhouse?
That was a moment that I will treasure for ever. It was such an honour to sing for and with such a legend. He was phenomenal and really encouraging during my performance.

What are you working on at the moment?
A number of different projects: I’m currently preparing to do support on Gabrielle’s tour this year (An Evening with Gabrielle, from 31 Oct 2016. Visit www.gabrielle.co.uk for more details).

Is this ad one of the more unusual things you’ve sung?
Not at all, I have sung everything from Hebrew and Korean, to singing for Durex and USwitch adverts and many more.

What would a radio ad for you be like?
I think it would be very colourful and purple and bubbly.

Which station would you be most excited to hear yourself on?
I would love to hear one of my songs on Kiss FM, Capital or Jazz FM.

What is your favourite song on the radio right now?
Currently I’m in love with Cold Water by Justin Bieber and Mo. I’m afraid I’m a total Belieber #guilty.
