Helen Boaden steps down from BBC

BBC Director of Radio Helen Boaden has announced today she is stepping down from her role and retiring after 34 years at the corporation.

The BBC confirmed that current Director of Strategy and Education James Purnell will take over responsibility for radio alongside education, arts, music, learning and children’s departments.

Siobhan Kenny, the CEO of Radiocentre, the industry body for commercial radio, said:

‘Helen has been a brilliant leader of BBC Radio and has worked tirelessly with all of us who love radio for the immense good of the medium. When I joined Radiocentre as a newcomer to the industry, Helen was one of the first to welcome me to the big radio family. We will miss her and look forward to discovering whatever the next amazing chapter brings for her.’
