Dates confirmed for roundtables to discuss commercial radio deregulation

Radiocentre is hosting a series of roundtable meetings across the UK to discuss the recommendations made by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in its consultation document on commercial radio deregulation. The proposed changes will provide radio stations with greater freedom and flexibility to meet listeners’ needs.

The main recommendations are three-fold. First, removing detailed format requirements. Secondly, applying a new duty around news and local information, with enhanced requirements in the Nations. Thirdly, giving stations the flexibility to produce other locally-relevant output without stipulating where that content is made.

The meetings will be attended by DCMS officials and are open to all interested parties to attend. All four meetings will be chaired by Ian O’Neill, Head of Radio at DCMS. The details are as follows:

• 2pm on Wednesday 8 March at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel, 34 Bread Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9AF
• 11 am on Friday 17 March at Key 103, Castle Quay, Castlefield, Manchester, M15 4PR
• 2pm on Tuesday 4 April at Radiocentre, 55 New Oxford Street, London, WC1A 1BS
• NEW DATE – 11 am on Friday 21 April at Heart South Wales, Red Dragon Centre, Hemingway Road, Cardiff, CF10 4JY
