Absolute radio launches on 105.2 FM in the West Midlands

Absolute Radio announces today that it will launch on 105.2FM in the West Midlands on Monday 7th September 2015. This exciting move brings increased choice to the region’s three million radio listeners who will have more opportunity to enjoy the station’s unique brand of real music, comedy and football.

The Absolute Radio Network which includes Absolute 80s, the UK’s leading commercial digital radio station already reaches 3.9 million people each week. It will take over the frequency from Planet Rock in advance of the RAJAR Q4 2015 survey on 21st September. Planet Rock will continue to broadcast on digital radio in the region and will also be available on digital television, online and via its mobile app.

This is a significant move for Absolute Radio and allows award-winning presenter Frank Skinner who is from West Bromwich to broadcast to his fans in his home region. Ian Wright’s Rock N Roll Football also returns, delivering live coverage of the Barclays Premier League again this season. Fans can expect coverage of West Brom and Aston Villa games via the FM frequency.

Group Managing Director National Radio Steve Parkinson said “As well as offering more choice to radio listeners in the West Midlands, this will unlock fantastic opportunities for Absolute Radio and Bauer as a whole, allowing us to drive market share and increased commercial revenues.”

The move will drive Bauer Radio’s key national strategy as it looks to continually invest in its four power brands: Magic, KISS, Absolute Radio and the Bauer City Network. Absolute Radio’s blue-chip clients will also feel the benefit as the extension increases the footprint for the likes of Wickes, sponsors of The Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show.

Local and national clients and sponsors will be able to take advantage of the commercial opportunities available on the 105.2FM frequency.

Further details about the launch will be unveiled in due course.
